Research trips

I study animals from several areas, mainly concentrating on bushcrickets and other Orthoptera from Southeastern Europe.

Slovenia - Mt. Slavnik

Slovenia Slavnik Mountains in the karst region - rich in bushcricket species

A species-rich area, including three Poecilimon-species: P. ampliatus, P. ornatus and P. elegans. We found 30 species in the last years.

Poecilimon ampliatus female

Poecilimon ampliatus female. This species is very common in the karst region of SW Slovenia, especially in spring.

Miramella irena female

Miramella irena male. This large, green shining grasshopper is common in mountainous regions of SW Slovenia, where it feeds largely on wood leaves, like hazel and beech.

Hungary - Aggtelek

Aggtelek Mountains - karst region at the Slovakian border

Czech-Slovakian Border - Bile Karpaty

The Bile Karpaty in the Czech Republic

Research in Greece

Reflections in the night - marked bushcrickets in Greece

Peripodisma tymphii. This species is an Greek endemic. It has, even as adults, no visible wings and was used by us, for studying hearing regression in comparison to related grasshoppers, including Miramella irena, see above.
